Breaking News! Facebook To Add SMS Text Feature to Increase Fan Page Virality!

We just discovered an incredible new option (presumably in beta) for select administrators and promoters of Facebook Public Profiles – you can text to become a fan of select businesses, organizations, politicians, or official entities on Facebook! Go ahead, try this out by fanning our firm – Text fan theKbuzz to FBOOK (32665) to become a fan of ours on Facebook. (Replace “thekbuzz” with the name of another vanity url on a Facebook Fan Page / Public Profile such as Barack Obama to ask people to become fans of that public profile or business!)

I predict Facebook will continue to roll out this text messaging feature for more and more public profiles. This is an incredible new tool that will further help Fan Page Virality! (recent home page changes have definitely made Pages more viral). Imagine the scenarios- you can ask 10 people in a Board room to take their phone out and become Fans, or 100 people at a rally to become political supporters, or 30,000 people at a concert or ballpark to become fans via mobile device.

I also predict Facebook will then offer administators of Public Profiles the option to send text messages to fans or supporters who have opted in to receive messages- either as added value for advertisers or for a fee. If that’s the case, it’s a brilliant model that allows for companies, organizations, and politicians to communicate with their fans via text message and bypass short code companies.

Once again, way to go, Facebook!

Q – does every page have a ‘vanity URL?’ It doesn’t seem to work w/our fan page.

No, not yet, David. Vanity URL’s slowly being rolled out throughout 2009.

This is really cool. Can’t wait for this to roll out across all Fan Pages.
