SXSW PanelPicker: Power to the People
It’s that time again – voting season has begun for South by Southwest (SXSW) Conference presenters. SXSW has three components: Interactive, Film and the most widely known, Music. As a member of theKbuzz team, the most exciting category is by far the Interactive one for me! The 5 days in March are jam-packed with keynotes presentations, panel sessions, a trade show and exhibition, awards, and networking unlike anywhere else in the industry – and all the top players are there.
Unique to South by Southwest is how they select the presenters for the conference – participants and anyone with a computer can help vote for topics they find worthy of SXSW! The interface for the voting is done through PanelPicker . Users can vote and are encouraged to comment on proposals they find most engaging and captivating. You can check out submissions for all 3 events and the process is simple with a mere choice between “yes” and “no.” The votes go into 30% of the selection process to determine which proposals are showcased at the conference. The rest of the judging is divided between staff (30%) and the advisory board (40%).
This is an excellent way to crowd source panelists and give ownership to attendees of the conference. South by Southwest continues to showcase the best and most progressive industry players, and using PanelPicker is a fantastic way to discover all that is out there from the unknown to the spectacular, well to social media nerds like me.
Intrigued? Want to a say into the conference? Check out the proposals, especially the one by yours truly from theKbuzz on Facebook fan pages: http://thk.bz/Y. This killer panel on Facebook fan pages will feature theKbuzz principal Dave Kerpen, allfaceboook.com’s Nick O’Neill, insidefacebook.com’s Justin Smith and Socialbee’s founder Hazel Dircksen. If you like what you see and vote for us – thank you! Voting ends Sept. 4 so get a glimpse of all the proposals while they are still posted!
