Back to School
Today is the first day of school for millions of US public school children, including one of my 2 daughters. As I dropped off my little one this morning amongst screaming children and nervous parents, I got to thinking about education, in and out of school.
People are often surprised when I tell them the following statement:
50% of my time as CEO of theKbuzz is spent educating and re-educating myself.
That may seem like a lot of time- heck, it is a lot of time – but the reality is, with technology now changing at its most rapid pace in history, if I am going to lead a company whose mission includes helping organizations best utilize social media, then I’ve g0t to keep up.
Email took 15 years to come to fruition. Social media took 3.
Facebook innovates nearly every week.
There are thousands of new Facebook apps, Twitter apps, and Iphone apps each week.
Mashable and Techcrunch each have between 5-10 new posts, each day.
So I go “back to school” each day.
How often do you go back to school?

Right on, Dave. I spend significant time every day educating myself…social media especially, as well as other marketing elements. It’s a necessity. Social media, as you’ve noted, is evolving so rapidly that without putting in the hours required to stay abreast every day, you’re behind. I spend an hour every morning reading various feeds and RSS emails, and then the updates all day long–and it is so worth the effort. Learning, and a love of learning, is a lifetime endeavor.
